Yipster AI Assistant

Yipster is your AI-powered fleet assistant built into the Yipii IoT dashboard. Ask questions about your vehicles in plain language — fleet status, trip history, driver performance, vehicle diagnostics, device connectivity — and get instant, data-driven answers without navigating through menus or building reports.

Yipster AI chat panel on desktop

Yipster understands your fleet context in real time. It knows which vehicles are moving, which are idle, what alerts have fired, and what each driver's performance score looks like — all without you having to specify IMEIs, asset IDs, or technical parameters. Just ask your question the way you'd ask a colleague, and Yipster handles the rest.

Getting Started

Opening Yipster

Click the AI Assistant toggle button (sparkle icon) in the header toolbar. The Yipster panel slides in from the right side of the screen, overlaying the current page without leaving your view. You can keep the map, reports, or any other page open while chatting.

At the top of the panel you will see a New chat button to start a fresh conversation and a Close panel button to dismiss Yipster. The panel displays the Yipster avatar, a personalised greeting ("Hey [Name]!"), the tagline "I'm Yipster, your AI fleet assistant", an AI Credits Active badge, a set of suggested prompts, the chat input field, and a "Powered by Yipii AI" label at the bottom.

Your First Question

Once the chat panel is open, type a question in the message box at the bottom and press Enter. Yipster responds in real time with a streaming reply — you see the answer appear word by word as it's generated, so you never stare at a loading spinner.

The panel shows four suggested prompts to get you started:

  • Fleet status — "Show me the fleet overview"
  • Find a vehicle — "Where is my closest vehicle?"
  • Vehicle health — "Any vehicles with fault codes?"
  • Trip report — "Show today's trips"

Click any suggested prompt to send it instantly, or type your own question. Yipster will suggest follow-up questions after each response, making it easy to dig deeper without having to think of the next query from scratch.

What Yipster Can Do

Yipster has access to your fleet data through a set of specialised tools that it calls automatically based on your question. You don't need to know which tool does what — Yipster figures that out from your natural language query. Here's what's available:

Fleet Status

Ask about your fleet's current state and Yipster queries live vehicle data in real time.

Example questions:

  • "How many vehicles are moving right now?"
  • "Which trucks are parked and where?"
  • "What's the status of Vehicle 42?"
  • "Are any vehicles in the industrial zone?"

Yipster reads the live GPS data streaming from your trackers, including position, speed, ignition state, direction, and how long each vehicle has been in its current status. This is the same data you see on the live map, but queryable in plain language.

Trip History & Analytics

Review trips, distances, fuel consumption, and harsh driving events for any vehicle or time period.

Example questions:

  • "How far did Van-03 travel last week?"
  • "Show me today's trips for the delivery fleet"
  • "Which vehicle had the most harsh braking events yesterday?"
  • "What's the total distance across all vehicles this month?"

Yipster retrieves trip summaries including start and end locations, distance covered, duration, average speed, fuel consumed, and any harsh driving events (braking, acceleration, cornering) detected during each trip.

Driver Scoring & Coaching

Get driver performance insights and AI-generated improvement tips based on behaviour data.

Example questions:

  • "What's the driver score for Truck-01?"
  • "Who are my worst-scoring drivers this week?"
  • "Give me coaching tips for the driver of Van-12"
  • "How has Driver A's score changed over the past month?"

Yipster provides the overall score (0-100), grade (A through F), and a breakdown of individual metrics: acceleration, braking, cornering, speeding, and eco-driving. When you ask for coaching tips, Yipster generates specific, actionable advice tailored to that driver's weak areas — not generic safety platitudes.

For a deep dive into how scores are calculated, see Driver Scoring & Behavior.

Vehicle Diagnostics

Check vehicle health, OBD-II fault codes, sensor data, and AVL connection diagnostics.

Example questions:

  • "Does Truck-05 have any engine fault codes?"
  • "What DTCs are active across my fleet?"
  • "Is the temperature sensor on Reefer-01 reading normally?"
  • "Show me the battery voltage for all vehicles"
  • "What's the AVL verdict for Vehicle 42?"

Yipster reads OBD-II diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) with human-readable descriptions and severity levels, along with sensor data like battery voltage, coolant temperature, and fuel level where available from your trackers. It also surfaces the AVL connection verdict and diagnostics data shown in the Diagnostics tab, giving you a complete picture of vehicle health and data connectivity in a single conversation.

Device & SIM Diagnostics

Troubleshoot tracker connectivity and SIM card issues.

Example questions:

  • "Why is Vehicle 42 showing as offline?"
  • "What's the SIM status for Truck-03?"
  • "Which trackers have low signal strength?"
  • "When did Van-07 last report its position?"

Yipster checks the tracker's connection state, last known position, SIM card status, signal quality, data usage, and network registration. This is particularly useful for diagnosing connectivity problems without needing to access the device management console directly.

Alert Configuration

Review your existing alert setup and understand what's being monitored.

Example questions:

  • "What alerts are configured for Truck-01?"
  • "Which vehicles have speed alerts?"
  • "Show me all my geofence alerts"

Yipster retrieves your alert configurations, including thresholds, assigned assets, notification channels, and active schedules. This gives you a quick overview without navigating to the Alerts page.

Account & Subscription

Ask about your plan, features, and billing status.

Example questions:

  • "What plan am I on?"
  • "How many sharing links do I have left?"
  • "What add-ons are available?"
  • "What's my referral code?"

Yipster can check your subscription status, active add-ons, feature limits, and referral programme details. If you're curious about upgrading, Yipster will explain what each tier includes.

Contextual Awareness

Yipster is aware of what you're currently viewing in the dashboard. When you open the chat while looking at a specific vehicle's detail page, Yipster knows which vehicle you're viewing and can answer questions about it without you needing to specify the vehicle name.

For example, if you're on the asset detail page for "Truck-01" and ask "What's the driver score?", Yipster understands you mean Truck-01 and responds accordingly.

This contextual awareness extends to:

  • Map view — Yipster knows your current map viewport and selected vehicle
  • Reports — Questions can reference the report you're viewing
  • Alerts — Yipster understands which alert or event you're looking at

Conversations & History

Persistent Conversations

Your conversation with Yipster persists across page navigations and browser sessions. If you close the chat panel to check the map and come back, your conversation is exactly where you left it. This means you can start a diagnostic investigation, navigate to another page to verify something visually, and then continue your conversation without repeating context.

Starting Fresh

Click the New chat button at the top of the chat panel to start a clean conversation. This is useful when switching topics — for example, if you've been investigating a connectivity issue and now want to ask about driver scores, a fresh conversation avoids confusion from previous context.

Follow-Up Suggestions

After each response, Yipster suggests 2-3 follow-up questions you might want to ask. These are contextually relevant — if you asked about fleet status, the suggestions might be "Which vehicles have been idle longest?" or "Show me today's trips for the moving vehicles." Click any suggestion to ask it instantly.

AI Credits & Usage

Yipster uses a credit-based system to measure usage. Credits are the smallest units of text that the AI model processes — roughly 4 characters equal 1 credit. Every question you ask and every answer Yipster generates consumes credits from your monthly allowance.

Checking Your Usage

The credits display appears at the top of the chat panel, showing your current plan name, usage, and a percentage bar. For example, you might see "Starter" with "10K / 1.0M credits used" and a visual progress bar.

An AI Credits Active badge confirms that credits are available on your account. You can also ask Yipster directly: "How much of my AI budget have I used?"

Monthly Credit Allowances

Your credit budget depends on your subscription plan:

PlanMonthly Credit AllowanceTypical Usage
Free10,000 credits~20-30 basic questions
Starter1,000,000 credits~2,000-3,000 questions
Pro5,000,000 credits~10,000-16,000 questions
EnterpriseCustomTailored to your fleet size

A typical question-and-answer exchange uses around 300-500 credits, but this varies depending on the complexity of your question and how much fleet data Yipster needs to retrieve. Simple questions like "How many vehicles are moving?" use fewer credits than detailed requests like "Give me a full trip analysis for all vehicles this week."

What Happens When You Run Out

If you approach your monthly limit (over 90% used), Yipster displays a warning in the chat panel. If you reach the limit, Yipster lets you know and suggests upgrading your plan for a higher allowance.

Your credit budget resets automatically on the first of each month. Unused credits do not roll over.

Upgrading Your Allowance

To increase your monthly credit budget, click the Change Plan button shown in the credits display at the top of the Yipster panel. This takes you directly to your plan options where you can review available tiers and upgrade.

Alternatively, ask Yipster: "What plan should I be on?" — it can analyse your usage patterns and recommend the best plan for your fleet size and activity level.

Example Conversations

Here are some real-world scenarios showing how Yipster can help with daily fleet operations.

Morning Fleet Check

You: How is my fleet doing this morning?

Yipster: Your fleet has 42 vehicles total. Right now, 15 are moving, 20 are idle with ignition on, and 7 are parked with ignition off. 3 vehicles have active DTC codes that may need attention — Truck-05 (P0300 misfire), Van-12 (P0171 fuel trim), and Truck-18 (P0420 catalyst).

You: Tell me more about Truck-05's fault code

Yipster: Truck-05 has DTC P0300 — Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected. This is a moderate severity code indicating that the engine is misfiring across multiple cylinders. Common causes include worn spark plugs, faulty ignition coils, or fuel delivery issues. I'd recommend scheduling a diagnostic check. The vehicle is currently parked at your main depot.

Driver Performance Review

You: Who are my worst-performing drivers this week?

Yipster: Based on this week's scores, here are your three lowest-scoring drivers:

  1. Van-12 driver — Score: 54 (Grade D). Main issues: 12 harsh braking events, 8 harsh acceleration events
  2. Truck-09 driver — Score: 61 (Grade C). Main issues: excessive speeding on 3 trips
  3. Car-03 driver — Score: 67 (Grade C). Main issues: harsh cornering on urban routes

You: Give me coaching tips for the Van-12 driver

Yipster: Based on the driving data, here are specific coaching tips:

  • Focus on maintaining a safe following distance — most harsh braking events happen when following too closely in traffic
  • Practice gradual acceleration from stops. Take 5-8 seconds to reach desired speed rather than accelerating aggressively
  • Consider the route — several harsh events occurred at the same junction on Main Street. Approaching this junction at lower speed would reduce the need for sudden braking

Connectivity Troubleshooting

You: Van-07 hasn't updated its position in 2 hours. What's wrong?

Yipster: Van-07's tracker last reported at 10:32 AM from the warehouse on Industrial Road. Let me check the device diagnostics... The SIM card status shows active with normal data usage, but the GPS signal strength is very low. The tracker has power (battery voltage is 12.4V), so it's not a power issue. This suggests the vehicle may be in an area with poor GPS reception — underground parking, dense urban canyon, or inside a metal structure. If the vehicle should be in an open area, the GPS antenna may need inspection.

Tips & Best Practices

Ask Naturally

Yipster understands plain language. You don't need to use technical jargon, specific API field names, or follow a rigid format. Ask questions the way you'd ask a colleague who knows your fleet inside out.

Good: "Which trucks haven't moved today?" Also good: "Show me all stationary trucks" or "Any trucks still parked?"

Be Specific When Needed

While Yipster handles broad questions well, being specific saves credits and gets you faster answers:

  • Instead of "Tell me everything about Truck-01," try "What's Truck-01's driver score this week?"
  • Instead of "Show me all data," try "How far did the delivery fleet travel today?"

Use Follow-Up Suggestions

The suggested follow-up questions are designed to help you explore your fleet data efficiently. They're based on what you just asked and what information might logically come next. Clicking a suggestion is faster than typing a new question and uses your credit budget efficiently.

Start Fresh for New Topics

If you're switching from one investigation to another (e.g., from troubleshooting a device to reviewing driver scores), start a new conversation. This prevents Yipster from carrying over irrelevant context that could confuse the response.
