PWA & Mobile Access

Install Yipii Mobility as a Progressive Web App and use mobile-optimized features

PWA & Mobile Access

Yipii Mobility is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA), meaning you can install it on your device for a native app-like experience without going through an app store. The interface is fully responsive and optimized for mobile use.

What Is a PWA?

A Progressive Web App runs in your browser but can be installed to your home screen like a native application. Benefits include:

  • No app store required -- Install directly from the browser
  • Always up to date -- No manual updates needed; the latest version loads automatically
  • Offline page -- A fallback page is shown when you lose connectivity
  • Fast loading -- Cached resources enable quick startup
  • Full-screen experience -- Runs without the browser address bar when installed

Installing the PWA

On iOS (Safari)

  1. Open the Yipii Mobility dashboard in Safari
  2. Tap the Share button (square with upward arrow)
  3. Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen"
  4. Give it a name (or accept the default) and tap "Add"
  5. The app icon appears on your home screen

On Android (Chrome)

  1. Open the Yipii Mobility dashboard in Chrome
  2. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right
  3. Tap "Add to Home Screen" or "Install App"
  4. Confirm the installation
  5. The app icon appears on your home screen or app drawer

On Desktop (Chrome / Edge)

  1. Open the Yipii Mobility dashboard
  2. Look for the install icon in the browser address bar (usually a "+" or computer icon)
  3. Click "Install" in the prompt
  4. The app opens in its own window and appears in your applications

Mobile-Optimized Features

The entire dashboard is responsive and adapts to mobile screen sizes:

  • The sidebar collapses into a hamburger menu on mobile
  • Tap the menu icon to open and navigate
  • The command palette (Cmd+K) works on mobile too

Data Tables

  • Tables switch to a card-based layout on small screens
  • Each record is displayed as a card with key information visible
  • Tap a card to view full details

Forms

  • All forms are mobile-friendly with appropriately sized inputs
  • Date pickers, dropdowns, and other controls are touch-optimized
  • Photo capture uses the native device camera

Time Tracking

  • Large clock in/out buttons designed for easy tapping
  • GPS location captured automatically on mobile
  • Works reliably on both iOS and Android

Inspections

  • Inspection forms are touch-friendly
  • Camera integration for required photos
  • Can be completed entirely on a mobile device in the field

Offline Behavior

When you lose internet connectivity:

  • A fallback offline page is displayed
  • Previously loaded pages and data may remain accessible from the browser cache
  • Actions taken while offline will need to be re-performed once connectivity is restored
  • GPS clock-in/out entries queue and sync when back online

Note: Full offline data sync is limited. For the best experience, ensure you have a stable internet connection when performing critical actions like submitting inspections or creating work orders.

Best Practices

  • Install the PWA on all field worker devices for quick access
  • Grant location permissions for time tracking and inspections
  • Keep the browser (Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android) up to date for the best PWA experience
  • Use a mobile data connection as a fallback when WiFi is unavailable
  • Close and reopen the PWA periodically to ensure you have the latest version
